F or most of the 29 years I ’ ve worked for the Dow Jones News Fund , Adviser Update has been part of my job .

After 13 years in newspaper newsrooms , joining a quiet nonprofit foundation office required some switched gears . Publishing a quarterly newsletter , however small the circulation , was a welcome throwback .
As Richard Levine wrote in his column , this is the final issue of Adviser Update . It grew from a newsy letter to teachers to a glossy newsletter to a tabloid for educators and editors printed by Wall Street Journal pressmen . We are forever grateful for sold and swapped “ ads ” with colleges and scholastic journalism groups and we look forward to collaborating with other foundations in the near future .
In Update ’ s wake , I ’ d like to point you to several organizations that have consistently done a stellar job providing teaching resources , mentorship , advice , great examples to share with students , and news on the movement to protect and promote student press rights .
First , I recommend our long-time partner , the Columbia Scholastic Press Association , led by Ed Sullivan . CSPA , founded in 1925 at Columbia University , is an international student press association and has become the primary sponsor of the National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year program . The News Fund is a co-sponsor . In addition to its fall conference , CSPA hosts a convention each March that capitalizes on formidable presenters , members and
