opportunity . Last February , I was elated when I received the phone call telling me I was chosen and that I was going to the Galápagos in October 2016 . To prepare for the expedition , I spent April 14-17 , 2016 in Washington , D . C ., at the National Geographic Headquarters with 34 other 2016 National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions Grosvenor Teacher Fellows , naturalists , photographers and Google Geo experts . This professional development workshop was the training component to the expedition I undertook in October to the Galápagos Islands .
On my expedition , the average travelers were 60 years old . Many were on bucket-list fulfillment trips , spending their children ’ s inheritance as they said . All showed an adventurous spirit as we rode zodiacs to the various Galápagos
