Poynter High School Journalism Workshop at the Poynter Institute in St . Petersburg , Florida , June 12-16 . This one-week workshop for Tampa Bay area high school students improves writing skills , teaches new ways to use social media and digital storytelling tools and understanding of journalism ’ s role in a democracy . Students work with Poynter faculty and local prize-winning journalists to wrestle with journalism ethics , learn the skills journalistic fact-checkers use , and discover secrets to good storytelling .

The University of Florida Summer Media Institute is a six-day , five-night camp June 18-23 where students are immersed in the world of journalism and communications . Students will attend classes taught by our faculty , industry-leading professionals and UF students and will attend keynote lectures with communication experts from across the country . The camp is divided into : Morning elective classes – including advertising , broadcast , journalism and public relations options . Afternoon tracks – students will choose one area of specialization , such as Social Media Reporting , Sports Reporting ., Photojournalism , Video Creation , TV News Reporting , On-Air Performance , or Yearbook .

Media & Leadership Academy is an intensive one-week experiential learning program at the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication in Atlanta from July 4 to 11 . This program is open to rising high school sophomores to seniors interested in the mass communications field . Participants will choose one of the three offered tracks : Journalism , AD & PR , and Entertainment . Participants will spend the first half of the week learning the basics of their chosen track and will work within a team to complete a class project . Through speakers and travel to professional companies or venues , participants will be exposed to real life experiences .

Savannah State University Media High The Dow Jones News Fund supports SSU Media High , where students reside on the campus for two weeks ( June 18-30 ) and produce all aspects of digital content , including writing , editing , photography , broadcasting and social and text media for ssumediahigh . com and its Facebook page . Students focus on delivering digital content for mobile devices , including tablets and smartphones . They will also experience campus life and the local culture while exploring the global impact of media , and in doing so elevating the highest standards of journalism .
